So, after the first listen...
I own both the 1984 soundtrack album (on vinyl and CD) and the "Definite Edition". Both have their merits ("Future Remembered" from the soundtrack album still is by far the best version for me, period).
This new presentation however is really brilliant and a *vast* improvement over the "definite edition". However purists take note: Brad took a few (but really only a few) liberties with the material as opposed to the score as in film. Basically he just added a few bars of additional material towards the end of two or three cues. But even though i have only listened to the mp3 download yet, the fidelity and mastering of the material is brilliant!
For me one of the most important factors is that Brad corrected the synchronisation between the various drum machines and the synths. While understandable under technical considerations, this is what made the "definite edition" virtually unlistenable for me. The score was recorded in '84 with pre-midi instrumentation. And i do know how hard it is to clock/synchronise old synths of various makes and models. Brad explained in a documentary i've seen (probably on a T1 DVD somewhere) how he "hand-synchronised" the synths at the time. While it works in the movie (lots of sound fx mask the shortcomings), it was painfully obvious on the CD.
But Brad Fiedel obviously painstakinkly rearranged all of the source material in a way that it all sounds perfectly synchronised (with a few very minor exceptions). This must have been *extremely* heavy work - huge congratulations!!!
I am very glad this was done as i can now finally enjoy the score as it was meant to sound after all these years. I can't wait for the vinyl and CD to arrive!
Many thanks, Brad Fiedel and Milan!!!
ok. głębszy oddech i playMilan pisze:Yes The Terminator reissue will come out on CD and digital on the same day.
CD will have a similar presentation to Robocop with a simple digipack.
But the musical content will be the same as the vinyl. Brad Fiedel spent a lot of time working on this presentation. He went back to the original material to rebuild an album he feels would be a strong listening experience
