bo jest. 3/5 to maks. album rozwleczony do granic wytrzymałości, powtórzenia. część utworów w ogóle się nie sprawdza i nie nadaje na publikację i gryzie się z resztą albumu. o ile w serialu to nie przeszkadzało, to moim zdaniem na płycie osłabia to muzykę, jej walory i odbiór. liryka ładna i to najmocniejsza część płyty. jakby to trwało 40 minut i nie było z połowy traków, to by był dobry, ale nie piątkowy score. a tak, niestety. Abel chyba na siłę chciał wydać komplita i to zrobił. kilka traków chyba jest nawet w rozbudowanej wersji w stosunku do scen z serialu, czasami też niepotrzebnie imho.

Vanessa attacks her psychiatrist and is taken to an asylum to undergo further "treatment" -- 19th century medicine in its horrifying glory. One of the most brutal and disturbing scenes of the series. The score follows Vanessa's collapse into catatonia.

Track of the Day: #18 CLOSER THAN SISTERS
Mina's motif is followed by the second part of Vanessa's theme (also the second half of the Main Title). At this point the orchestration has been reduced to a simple piano solo. Then, on top of it, a new melody is introduced in violins. It grows stronger and stronger, unfolding into a full orchestral "tutti". If you listen closely, the piano with Vanessa's theme is still there. It will explode with full force at the very end.

VANESSA (V.O.)
Post Script. Your father loves you very much and would do anything to save you. But I love you in a different way...

Then we hear roaring surf. Which takes us back to...

EXT. SEASHORE - DAY

Three children. A bright, sunny day on the English coast. An idyll.

VANESSA (V.O.)

Track of the Day: #1 DEMIMONDE (MAIN TITLE)
I wrote the main title before even seeing the animated sequence. My only guideline was John's desire for something "elegiac", and a story board with sketches and timings. That early visual concept centered around petrified human forms floating in the abysmal darkness, while evil creatures, which live inside, are cracking the sculptures to get out. This was a very stimulating image, however the main melodic theme came from one of the firsts scenes I scored -- Vanessa meets Dorian Gray (#14 NEVER SAY NO) -- this was where Vanessa's Theme was born.
The first part of Vanessa's Theme begins with a 3-note motif -- her signature, which is then stamped across the entire score. The second part reflects Vanessa's deeper and often suppressed, emotional side (see #18 CLOSER THAN SISTERS, #26 BACK HAND OF GOD).

The original Penny Dreadful inside Penny Dreadful.
Grand Guignol was a theater in Paris (and briefly in London), famous for its grisly horror shows full of graphic, amoral entertainment and gory special effects.

The Creature gets a job as a stagehand, operating ropes, counterweights, pulleys, thunder-plates, limelights, trap doors and a blood pump. This new world is magic and it makes him happy at last.

BRAND
There is a place where the malformed find grace.
Where the hideous can be beautiful.
Where strangeness is not shunned but celebrated...
This place... is the theatre.

Track of the Day: #24 TO BE BEAUTIFUL IS TO BE ALMOST DEAD

Vanessa's eyes are half closed. She smiles lazily. She barely moves.

VANESSA
To be beautiful is to be almost dead, isn't it? ... Mmmm ... The lassitude of the perfect woman, the languid ease, the obeisance ... Spirit-drained, anemic, pale as ivory and weak as a kitten.

She smiles. Closes her eyes completely.

VANESSA
There's a brisk trade for photographs of dead women in London, did you know that? In certain quarters. The corpses are improved with cosmetics, then posed in postures of abject surrender and photographed ... The men circulate the pictures and pleasure themselves ... Ah, such exquisiteness.
