In Ubeda, James Fitzpatrick has announced the next scores he will rerecord with the City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Nic Raine:

- CONAN THE DESTROYER (Basil Poledouris)

- THE FALL OF THE ROMAN EMPIRE (Dimitri Tiomkin)

Scheduled for next year is the complete representation of one of the most awaited score in the film music community: QUO VADIS by the great Miklos Rosza.

A tak na serio - muza z Destroyera dużo traci ze względu na bardzo źle zmontowany album.

Jestem pewien że odpowiednio złożony complete zmieni istotnie obraz tej muzyki.

Conan to przeciętniak, ale Tiomkin i Rózsa - zmiażdżyli. Nie mogę się doczekać (zwłaszcza Tiomkina, bo Upadek miał kiepską jakość dźwięku).

"Yes it is confirmed next release with the City Of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra and Chorus will be on Prometheus Records, produced for them by Tadlow Music:

The complete 140 min. epic score to FALL OF THE ROMAN. Every bit of the score has been recorded from the original scores and parts used 1964 including music not used in the film. Olivia Tiomkin Douglas and Volta music were gracious enough to make this music available and grant first recording rights for the music that did not appear on the OST LP.

This production has probably been the biggest and most expensive in the history of re-recordings of classic film scores as the main title alone features an orchestra of 130 musicians including 80 strings,6 horns, 6 trumpets, 6 trombones etc...

While still not having a great liking for the film, once I had recorded all the music without reference to the images, I realised it is one of the greatest, and certainly the most difficult to play and record, of all film scores and certainly stands by itself as a massive piece of virtuoso composition.

Then next on the Prometheus/Tadlow agenda is the complete CONAN THE DESTROYER. This fulfils Basil's wish, and that of his family who lent their support to this project, that a good recording is made of this score as the composer is on record as saying how appalling the original recording and performance were. The original orchestra could not even play his main title music ... so the version in the film is an edit of various other cues.

And yes, plans are in final stages to record the complete QUO VADIS with the permission of EMI Music ...the publishers of the score"

Conan to przeciętniak

Rzeczywiście, na oryginalnym albumie muzyka prezentuje się przeciętnie - dla mnie śmiało 3,5.

Ale znam dobrze bootleg w żenującej jakości dźwięku i powiem że kompletne, dobrze zmontowane wydanie będzie jak najbardziej na 4 gwiazdki - i mówię to szczerze nie jako fanboy Serio Zresztą zobaczycie.

Nie spodziewałbym się nigdy że nagrają na nowo Destroyera, wszak to nie jest tak duży projekt jak Barbarzyńca, Cyd, Alamo itd...

Niemniej ciesze się ogromnie I dwa nowo nagrane Conany staną u mnie na półce Cud

To jest bardzo ciekawe. Może dlatego main title brzmi tak kiczowato i nieudolnie, w obu wersjach. Poczułem się zaintrygowany.

Jednak jak widać w obu przypadkach - i Barbarian i Destroyer - Basilowi rzucano kłody pod nogi.

Ciekawe tylko jedno - czy zostanie to wydane jeszcze w tym roku ?

Ja zastanawiam się czy nie warto by zaapelować do Fitzpatricka w pewnej kwestii. Skoro robią już kompletne, finalne wydanie Destroyera, zamykając muzyczną historię Conana, to czy nie warto by było, nagrać też 17 minutowy utwór "Adventures of Conan - Sword and Sorcery", który to Basil nagrał na potrzeby jakiegoś przedstawienia. I śmiało można by to dodać w bonusach.



Parę słów od Thaxtona -

I will confirm that the original soundtrack recording was Basil's opinion one of the worst of his entire career.

He HATED the performance, I don't mean he disliked liked it, HE HATED.

I was in the room when he said as much at least several times.....

If you ever wondered why the Film's Main Title isn't on the LP and later CD release (Despite being listed in the track list) is was because the orchestra just couldn't play it, after I think seven or eight takes, he just gave up and made sure the the sound effects of the horses would cover the piss poor performance (his words) that they could edit together.

If the the OST does come out, I'll buy it, but this would be rare chance to hear a new recording done in the way the composer WANTED it and the way it turned out.

A swoją drogą, co to są do cholery za orkiestry, które nie potrafią zagrać tego, co mają w nutach? Każda profesjonalna orkiestra powinna być w stanie zagrać to co ma w nutach, o ile to nie są wyjebane w kosmos pod względem technicznym kawałki typu Totall Recall Goldsmitha.

Ktoś ma jeszcze jakieś wątpliwości?

Ja mam. Bo odnoszę wrażenie, że już powoli zaczyna się kreowanie Destroyera na jakieś okaleczone, niesłusznie skrzywdzone, zapomniane arcydzieło. To że kiepsko nagrano muzykę jeszcze nie świadczy, że sama muzyka jest bardzo dobra - ten materiał, który znamy (i który raczej nie odmieni się o 180 stopni w nowym nagraniu) raczej nie daje takich nadziei. Więc spokojnie i bez propagandy.
