Ja lubię i Johna, i Pope'a, i zawsze kibicuję temu pierwszemu w wyścigu oskarowym, ale ostatnio posty Pope'a brzmią trochę sekciarsko:
John Williams winning an Oscar would honor the Academy more than it would honor him. His artistry transcends all awards. He honors -- and enriches-- us, not we him. Don't hold your breath hoping the Academy will recognize someone whom-- though not memory and history-- have found so easy to overlook when it comes recognizing art that endures, enriches and can transform- as opposed to what is "aujourd'hui".
Yes- and Dunkirk and Bladerunner-- and, if the Music Branch is hearing and not just listening: Darkest Hour and Phantom Thread. However, I think John remains in a league of his own. In all fairness to others, It's simply not an equal playing field with regard to music- however, with regard to " film music" there is " wriggle room".
