Fajnie, że dają rzecz, która już jakiś czas jest białym kurkiem kolekcjonerskim, ale w moim odczuciu wydanie regular wyczerpuje potencjał ten kompozycji. Mam jakiegoś kompletnego bootlega i szczerze powiedziawszy ciężko przez to przebrnąć. No ale zapewne dla zagorzałych wyznawców Goldsmitha będzie to dobry nius wydawniczy

"Powder" Expanded - no nie wiem... Z jednej strony temat jest przecudowny, ale przez tyle lat jedyne co pociągało mnie do tego albumu to właśnie Main Title i kończący album "Everywhere", do reszty nie wracałem bo nigdy mnie nie zachwycała nawet po filmie. A wydać ponad 100 zł za 8-9 minut naprawdę interesującej mnie muzyki to trochę wariactwo jak dla mnie Jak ten 70 minutowy album od Intrady wypadnie ? Ciężkie to może być w całości... Ale obadamy jak będzie w domenie.

One of Jerry Goldsmith's all-time most important soundtracks is expanded at last! Roman Polanski's landmark, Academy Award-winning Chinatown left 1974 audiences (and other film makers) with an impact that still reverberates to this day. Stars Jack Nicholson, Faye Dunaway, John Huston, writer Robert Towne, producer Robert Evans… all found themselves together, making the film of a lifetime! Sharing in that spotlight of success was composer Jerry Goldsmith, fashioning one of the most successful - and innovative - scores of a prolific and remarkably brilliant career. Private detective J.J. Gittes sets out on a routine investigation and winds up mired in an increasingly involved and complex web of deceit, deception, corporate crime, greed… and murder. He also finds himself drawn into a love affair that finds him inexorably doomed to repeat tragic mistakes from his past. To provide a musical score that could meld the 1930's Los Angeles milieu with issues relevant in modern times, Goldsmith made the now-legendary decision to anchor the music with a lonely, winding minor-key theme for solo trumpet in 30's period garb, then surround it with material in his trademark contemporary vernacular. The results were perfection: masculine-but-melancholy period trumpet amidst modernistic glissando strings, ringing chimes, scratching percussion effects, multiple harp arpeggios, dissonant harmonies, striking pizzicatos, everything combining together with brooding intensity until it all comes full circle, just like the story. Especially noteworthy are numerous devices from four pianos, tinkling in the right hand, jabbing in the left, hitting in collective cluster. Intrada now presents, courtesy Paramount Pictures and universal Music Group, two programs of this "perfect" score: first a remastered stereo reissue of the famous original ABC label 1974 album, second the complete score as it appears in the film, including music previously unreleased! Previous CD reissues of the 1974 album have been mastered it extremely "hot" levels, compressing the dynamic range and losing much of the level nuance between the various orchestral colors. For this Intrada presentation, an all-new mastering affords more appropriate levels, improved dynamics, better orchestral nuance… and less distortion at last! For the complete score presentation, Intrada was given access to what appears to be the sole remaining "master tape-quality" source material of the complete scoring sessions: a 1/4" full-track (mono) copy of the tape preserved by the composer himself, containing every cue he recorded. A number of important distinctions between the score as recorded for the film and the album are evident: different codas to the closing trumpet line and piano codas in the titles, judicial edits in the album takes, etc. Of special reward are the previously unreleased cues, including the lean, austere trumpet solo of "No Trespassing" when Jake enters the orange groves. Of particular interest is the haunting trumpet variant of the main theme ("Second Thoughts") ending on a rare and otherwise unrelated (for this score) major key as Jake showers, reflecting on events leading up to this unsatisfying juncture in his life. While in mono, the complete score offers clean, warm overall sound with crisp detail. A "flipper-style" booklet cover from Joe Sikoryak plus detailed notes by Jeff Bond is still another asset to this important release. Jerry Goldsmith conducts. Bruce Broughton - "Homeward Bound II"



Bruce Broughton's warm, exciting score for Homeward Bound II gets the royal treatment on CD! Following the considerable success of his soundtrack for the first movie (also available on Intrada), Broughton took his primary themes, gave them fresh new trappings and added an abundance of all-new material to envelope everything in rousing new musical garb. Walt Disney Pictures produced a major audience crowd-pleaser with Homeward Bound: The Incredible Journey in 1993. In 1996, they brought the cast back to further their adventures, this time in San Francisco. Back as well, of course, were Shadow, Chance and Sassy, two incredible dogs and one extraordinary cat that began their famous journey as real-life pets in Sheila Burnford's 1961 novel, shortly thereafter in Disney's live action 1963 film. Broughton fashioned one of his all-time most endearing themes with his broad Americana melody associated with elderly Shadow and the journeys inherent in both films. Themes for Sassy the Siamese cat, Chance the younger Labrador retriever also have their say. This time around, Broughton also brings considerable new action music into focus, underlining the profuse adventures (and mis-adventures!) the animals happen upon throughout the city, especially with a pack of other stray dogs. In addition, Broughton now composes an all-new "puppy love" theme for Chance and his new friend, Delilah. New highlights include the rousing airport escape music, the warm, seductive material for Chance and Delilah and a lengthy van attack sequence. Disney's label released an album in 1996, featuring roughly half of the score. Now, courtesy that label and the entire Disney Music Group, Intrada was given access to the complete 2" 24-track scoring session masters made by Armin Steiner at the Paramount Pictures scoring stage in February 1996. Hear now an incredibly vibrant new presentation of Broughton's expanded soundtrack with twice as much music! Previously unreleased material abounds! Of notable interest are two distinct "End Credits" pieces: each are rousing medleys of the familiar themes mingling with Broughton's new love theme, but one offers the tune seductively on soprano sax, the other plays it sweetly serious, courtesy gentle oboe over strings. Lepsza dynamika, lepsze niuansy w orkiestrowych kolorach, lepsze coś tam, coś tam, nowy materiał (jakieś kilka minut - pewnie underscore'u...), inne edity, zakończenia utworów. Wspaniały marketing na wiele zdań, niewątpliwie Czy aż tak można poprawić dźwięk sprzed 40 lat? Normalnie uznałbym to za typowy goldsmithowski skok na kasę, no ale wydanie Varese jest OOP. Tak tylko uznam, że Intrada uzupełnia sobie katalog o niezwykle klasyczną pozycję

Natomiast główna okładka jest bliźniacza do Varese:

to sobie włącz ponownie rozszerzone Bondy Barryego sprzed nie 40, a 50 lat, i zobaczysz że można wszystko kwestią tego w jakim stanie i gdzie leżakowały pokryte kurzem taśmy... oceni się po odsłuchu.

Musieli się czymś odróżnić, to dodali czarną ramkę (zgadzam się, że Varese nieco bardziej elegancko wygląda)

Może kiedyś, jak Intrada zarobi ładną obniżkę, to się skuszę... Wydanie Varese sprzed paru lat jak dla mnie brzmi wyśmienicie i w stu procentach mnie satysfakcjonuje.

SUPER! Samo rozszerzone wydanie niezmiernie cieszy, ale...
Co do ch**a z tą tracklistą zrobili??!! Nie można było całości zamknąć na 1CD? Serio? Potrzebny ten reprint soundtracku?? Wg danych oryginalny score + niewykorzystane fragmenty to 82 min. Nie dało się tego zamieść pod jeden krążek jak to np zrobiło z ostatnimi Goldsmithami i Silvestrim Varese??

było już o tym kilkakrotnie pisane - w tego typu wydaniach umowa z wytwórnią zmusza ich do umieszczenia reprintu regularnego wydania. np. MV o tym pisał już parę razy.
