Tyle, że Predator to wznowienie (podobnie jak Star Trek V) a Conan to wiadomo. Reszta to nisza, tytuły, które interesują jedynie zaprzysięgłych fanów danego twórcy lub zupełnie niszowe pozycje, które do terminu "zgniatacz" nijak się mają. Rzeczy, które podniecają głównie Amerykanów, którzy sikają w majty na widok każdego nowego, dowolnego tytułu.

Kugan nigdy nie wydany na CD, Quiller - klasyka kina szpiegowskiego i Barryego -25 lat temu po raz ostatni- chodził po astronomicznych kwotach, King Kong Lives - jeden z Top5 Scottta - tylko w Japonii - to samo, a Cauldron to klasyk Bernesteina i starego Disneya wydany 25 lat temu marnie przez varese na 27-min albumie... to są graale czy tego chcesz czy nie.

Sorki, ale Ty chyba nie odróżniasz klasyki od czegoś co było przez lata trudno dostępne, o wyczerpanym nakładzie, lub chodziło po astronomicznych kwotach Graale tak, ale klasyka nie. Słuchałem Cauldrona (sorki, przeciętne, bardzo ilustracyjne granie od Bernsteina) i King Kong Lives! (fajne, ale Barry lepszy i to jego score nazwałbym klasyką). Tak więc nie mieszajmy pojęć.

Jerry Goldsmith took the unusual step of opening the 1995 Paramount film Congo—a high-tech and violent, special effects laden action film—with a song. “Spirit of Africa,” performed by Lebo M, starts the adventure, providing the seed for a long-line adventure melody that plays throughout the score. The approach may seem counter-intuitive—creating a bright and sunny opening for a movie about murderous gorillas, and yet Goldsmith also wrote some of his most ferocious action music of the ‘90s as well. He surrounded the film with a magnificent theme for French horns; a beautiful line for Amy, the gentle gorilla; and the stirring work for orchestra and chorus with Lebo M that frames the score. Peppered throughout are exciting and explosive sequences that give the score a striking edge.

When it came time to selecting highlights for the Epic Soundtrax CD that coincided with the picture’s release in 1995, Goldsmith left off much of this exciting action music. In fact, he selected approximately 25 minutes of the score, framing the 33-minute album with “Spirit Of Africa,” just as he did the film. Absent were the propulsive “Meet Monroe Kelly,” the brief but intense “The Eye,” the riveting “Amy Has Bad Dreams” and, perhaps the most aggressive cue, “Help Me." The use of music in Congo was altered during postproduction more extensively than usual, but compliments of Paramount, Intrada had access to the complete unedited sessions, allowing for the inclusion of every re-scored or deleted sequence.

The film follows a high-tech expedition searching for a missing group that was testing a diamond-powered communications laser in the rain forests of Congo in Africa -- the previous group having been decimated by mysterious, unknown creatures. Accompanied by the gorilla Amy (trained to speak in sign language), the explorers travel to the ancient city of Zinj and after they too come under attack, they discover that mutant, albino gorillas—bred specifically to guard Zinj’s diamond riches—now slay any humans that trespass on their city.

In 1970, following the lead of their popular 1968 soundtrack for Franco Zeffirelli’s Romeo and Juliet, Capitol issued a 51-minute soundtrack LP of dialogue highlights from Columbia's Cromwell. Other than mere snippets of music contained within the dialogue tracks on Capitol’s album, Cordell’s dynamic and powerful score was never singled out for its own release. Now Intrada presents a 2-CD set containing the premiere of the complete original score in magnificent stereo on one disc and the original LP presentation on the second. Source masters for the scoring sessions were numerous ¼? 7½ ips two-track rolls of tape, stored for 40-plus years in the EMI Capitol vaults.

Cordell’s score was actually much longer than what appeared in the 140-minute picture. Not only had he composed “Overture” and “Intermission” sequences, but also several sequences subsequently dropped from the final production. These are all included on the CD. The original film structure places the action in the first half of the movie, with exciting sequences of soldiers and battle, all leading to the end of Act I. The second half stresses verbal confrontations between the two protagonists, the lengthy trial and the execution of King Charles. As such, Cordell necessarily puts his fanfares and battle music in the first half, and then writes more deliberate, involved dramatic underscoring for the second half.

The film opens in 1640. Oliver Cromwell (Richard Harris), a disillusioned Puritan farmer and former parliamentarian, plans to leave for America. Friends persuade him to return to Parliament and fight the flagrant disregard of justice displayed by King Charles I (Alec Guinness). Urged on by his queen (Dorothy Tutin) and Lord Strafford (Patrick Wymark), Charles demands money from Parliament to finance his war against Scottish rebels, but the assembly agrees only on condition that the king acknowledges their power. They also call for the execution of Strafford. The king complies, but later regrets his decision and sends soldiers to shut down Parliament. This confrontation leads to civil war.
